Breaking Tradition: The case of the BCCI against British Broadcasters

The controversy that the Indian establishment courts is never-ending. Just recently they announced that both Sky and the BBC would have to pay an extra large sum of money to cover the English tour to India. While the situation with Sky may have had its issues, the one involving the BBC seems to be a silly one and also one that could break one of English cricket's ancient traditions.

Test match special, the radio broadcast of the cricket matches, may have to be broadcast out of the BBC's headquarters in London rather than at the ground. This would be the first time since the mid 1970's that Test match special would be absent from a venue during an English test. Founded in 1957, the broadcast itself is iconic and at one point, used to be heard all over the world. Commerce seems to be more important to Indian administrators than the cricket itself. Fans will hope that a tradition as old as the googly will remain intact.

The Test Match Special team may not reach Indian shores

The situation with broadcasters reeks of greed and a complete lack of ethics. Asking Sky to pay an extra 500,000 pounds to broadcast on their own seems a little exorbitant. The English channel has covered English cricket for a long time but may not be present on site just like the BBC. Normally, the host broadcaster would provide assistance to visiting broadcast teams but Star TV do not control the rights which lie with the board. If the BCCI are attempting world domination, they seem to be on the right track. Decisions like these will not make many friends but they will enhance the coffers of the organisation.

This situation seems to be one with a simple solution. However, with the kind of clout that the BCCI carry, it would not surprise me if Sky and the BBC both fall in line. India's financial clout in world cricket is well known but a great English swindle seems to be on the cards. A bit reminiscent of the 2007 World Cup, and not honoring a time-honored tradition.

Brilliant Innings ending in defeat -II

Mahela Jayawardene- 103* vs India, Mumbai, World Cup Final, 2011

The celebrations were a bit premature

Possibly the innings that deserved the trophy the most. It was an innings made of dreams. Jayawardene walked into a packed Wankhede Stadium determined to lay his hands on the World Cup but had to leave empty handed. After Sangakkara had elected to bat, Mahela walked in to join him with the score on 60-2. He left the stadium to rapturous applause three hours later after scoring a beautiful century. He would not be denied that honour as he cut, drove and flicked his way to three figures. His wife though, could not bear to watch. After Sangakkara departed, he led the slog over assault and guided Sri Lanka to an imposing 276-4. It would not be enough to deny a determined Indian side to victory. They chased the score down with nearly four overs to spare thanks largely to nineties from Gautam Gambhir and M.S. Dhoni who finished it off in style. It would be Sri Lanka's third straight loss in a World Cup final.

NEW ZEALAND TOUR OF SRI LANKA 2012/13

October 30th,2012 marks the start of New Zealands tour of Sri Lanka. The first match is a Twenty20 International taking place in Pallekelle and is followed by 5 ODIS and 2 test matches.
For starters it provides the first oppurtunity for new skipper,Angelo Mathews who was selected as captain following the resignation of Mahela Jaywardene after the final match of the world T20,in which Sri Lanka lost to West Indies .
Sri Lanka will be without Ajantha Mendis for atleast the first 3 ODIs due to a side strain he sustained during the world T20,while an achilles injury to veteran Daniel Vettori also means that he will be missing from the series. The only newcomer in the one-day squad for Sri Lanka is 19-year old off spinner Tharindu Kaushal, who is yet to make his domestic debut in any format.Kaushal was the second-highest wicket-taker for Sri Lanka at the recent U-19 World Cup in Australia, taking 11 wickets at and average of 15.45.
Both teams possess great talent and players who are capable of providing a good competition, and since it is a fresh start after the world cup, they would love to build momentum, confidence and improve their skills in sight of climbing up the rankings and looking towards the next event on the world stage.

My prediction : Only T20 -Sri lanka.
ODIs-Sri Lanka 3 ,New Zealand 2.
Test-Sri Lanka 2,New Zealand 0.

Brilliant Innings ending in Defeat

Sachin Tendulkar: 136 vs Pakistan, Chennai, 1998-99

Even a Tendulkar hundred could not win this game for India

It was Pakistan's first tour to India since 1987 and the first time the two sides had met in a test series since 1989. Security threats and a dug up pitch in Delhi marred the beginning of the first test. When it finally got underway, it turned out to be a typical India-Pak encounter with all the twist. After winning the toss, Pakistan were dismissed for 238 in their first innings, but thanks to some good bowling and a hundred from Shahid Afridi, made India chase 271 to win. The Indians lost early wickets and were in trouble at 91-5 with only Tendulkar remaining. He battled the heat, a horrible back spasm and the Pakistani bowling attack along with Nayan Mongia to force India into a position from which it seemed difficult to lose..... But they somehow managed it. Mongia charged down the pitch and was stumped of Saqlain Mushtaq with the score on 251. Tendulkar eventually could not bear the pain and holed out to cover trying to clear midwicket of a doosra. The rest of the batsmen folded in abject surrender as India were bowled out for 258 to hand Pakistan the first test of the series.

Sir Viv to Team up With Shane Warne in the BBL !

Batting knowledge from the legend can be nothing but beneficial.

Spin King Shane Warne has  approached Legend of West Indies cricket,Sir Viv Richards to help coach the batsman of the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League ! Sir Viv has scored 8450 test runs in a career spanding from 1974 to 1991 and is suppose to be commentating in a 5 match  ODI series in February when the West Indies tour down under in what is expected  to be a competitive and challenging tour. However, with a on going deal being discussed,Sir Viv may be seen on  that side of the world a couple of months early (December) providing all goes well.

West Indies vs Bangladesh Preview

                                                 WEST INDIES  .vs.  BANGLADESH

So as the West Indies, get ready to fly out to Bangladesh where they compete in 2 test,5ODI's and a one off T20,the guys from the Caribbean must be feeling quiet confident about there chances against the host especially after winning the world cup a couple weeks ago.Providing the celebrations have stopped, the focus must now be set to a entirely different format, and as Chris Gayle has mentioned before, the west indies must not take Bangladesh lightly.
West Indies possess a team in which there is no doubt about the skills, ability and talent, and with the likes of Shiv Chanderpaul back in the whites, the middle order looks that more formidable. The Bangladeshis must not count themselves out, with a couple of good batsmen who are more than capable of scoring runs, left arm spinners capable of tackling and confusing  Kevin Peiterson, surely there must be some sort of positive mindset and the belief that they can win. Apart from winning ,is important that Bangladesh put up some sort of competition so as to provide entertainment and hope for the home fans.
Darren Sammy would love to keep up the progress shown in recent years and surely he himself would not be taking Bangladesh lightly. The Windies start they're campaign on the 8th November, against the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI which should provide some crucial warm ups for the guys to get their mindset right for the longer version of the game.Whether spinners are picked or not,is all up to the BCB. :)

Rizz's November Preview

The cricket season is almost upon us and November includes a few big series. Quite a few teams are in action this month with series kicking off in Australia, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. I will start as far away from home as possible as Australia take on South Africa.

Australia vs South Africa

The Australians face a tough month ahead as the current incumbents of the top rank in test cricket, arrive for a tour. There will be a lot at stake for the two teams and while South Africa will look for a win down under, the Australians will try and keep Ian Healy away from the cameramen as well as from Segways.

Australia will face an uphill battle against the likes of Dale Steyn, Morkel and Philander. Shane Watson has been pulled away from the Champions League to prepare for this series giving you an indication of how many sixes they want him to hit. On a more serious note, when the first test kicks off on the 5th of November, Ricky Ponting will be fighting to keep his place in Australia's test match team. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc will also be looking to make an impact. South Africa have almost nothing to lose but will do well if they can find an adequate replacement for Mark Boucher behind the stumps.

November features the first two test of the three match series which will be fast and furious.

My predicted result - 1-1

Shane Watson will be in white and will not clear the fence!

India vs England

The mind games have begun even before the visitors have arrived in Mumbai with India not picking a spinner for the first tour game. The Indian selectors have some very unpleasant headaches on their minds but will be reassured by the ineptitude that England have shown against spin bowling. India are almost invincible at home and it might seem as if a hurricane could be the only thing that stops England from losing this series. The English looked utterly hopeless against India's second string spinners during the World T20 and will do well to learn from that experience. However, their inexperienced batting lineup faces an uphill struggle. They will be buoyed by the return of Kevin Pietersen to the setup and will also hope to compete against an Indian team that seems to perform only at home. Revenge will be on India's mind after the 4-0 thumping they received last year against the same opponents.

The action starts on the 15th of November in Ahmedabad where KP may run away to South Africa handing India the match.

My prediction: 3-0 to India.

Can they handle the spin?

Greetings !!

We think that our views are more important to the world of cricket than the ICC and that Danny Morrison should be stuffed in an animal container and sent to Antarctica.

Cricket fans from all over the world are requested to share their views on the issues and photos that we will post. We do not mind some sledging but as long as it is clever and funny. Racism will not be tolerated. So from the Australia to the West Indies we welcome all our readers!
